Windsor Siding, Windsor
Stage 2 renewal works at Windsor Siding Reserve were recently completed and celebrated with an official opening by Council and Her Worship the Mayor, Cr Jami Klisaris.
In 2014 Hansen were engaged to change the perception of how the users cared for the park to and install a sense of pride and community ownership. Extensive community consultation was undertaken which lead to a masterplan with staged works.
The masterplan was endorsed in 2015 and Hansen were further engaged to document the proceeding stages of development. Stage 1 was implemented in 2016 and addressed connections, legibility, improved functionality, sight-lines and perceived safety. Upgrades to Windsor Siding included a wide central axis path and lighting, increased usable grass area, seating and a new BMX track.
This second stage of improvements to the park included the unveiling of a bright and bold bespoke picnic shelter, feature seat walls and new picnic and BBQ facilities. The primary objective of Stage 2 was to create a central heart for the park, a comfortable and open place for people to gather, interact and relax. A new pedestrian path from Union Street connecting into the main central path towards Windsor Station has made the park more accessible and easy to navigate. Expanded garden beds planted with native vegetation once mature will contribute to the parks already native garden character.
Documentation of Stage 3 works is expected to be underway in early 2018.
