Mentone Station and Gardens Urban Design Framework

In 2017, Hansen Partnership was engaged to prepare an Urban Design Framework (UDF) for Mentone Station and Gardens in response to the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project.

The fine-grain village character and unique historic fabric of Mentone is significant to the local community. The urban design framework seeks to establish clear parameters for Council to advocate on behalf of the community, for the delivery of high quality urban design outcomes with regard to the look and function of rail infrastructure and associated buildings, enhanced pedestrian connections and wayfinding as well as meaningful landscape and open space contributions to complement the existing Mentone Gardens.

It is envisaged that this report will form the basis of Council’s formal submission to the LXRA and any associated advocacy work. The framework will also assist the coordination of Council investment into public realm improvements, place making initiatives and the enhancement of local identity.

The Mentone Station and Gardens Urban Design Framework ran in parallel with the Cheltenham Activity Centre Structure Plan Review.
